Sri Lanka – The Rector Major Meets the Salesians of the Vice-Province: “Live Your Vocation with Zeal and Fraternity”

The gathering took place at the Provincial House and began at 9:00 a.m. with a brief but meaningful prayer service. In keeping with local tradition, the ceremonial lighting of the oil lamp symbolized the light of Christ and the guidance of the Holy Spirit upon the assembly. Representatives from neighboring India were also present, underscoring the spirit of regional communion within the South Asia Region.

In his conference to the confreres, the Rector Major reflected deeply on Salesian spirituality and community life. He invited the Salesians to rediscover the beauty of their vocation as consecrated apostles of the young and to strengthen the bonds of fraternity within their communities. Emphasizing fidelity to the charism of Saint John Bosco, he encouraged them to cultivate a profound spiritual life, a strong sense of belonging to the Congregation, and a renewed passion for evangelizing and educating young people in today’s complex social and cultural context.

“Community life,” he reminded them, “is not simply organizational structure, but a prophetic witness. It is where we learn to love, to forgive, and to walk together in mission.”

The conference was followed by an open forum session, during which the confreres freely raised questions and shared their reflections. The dialogue was marked by sincerity and mutual trust, offering the Rector Major an opportunity to listen to the hopes, concerns, and aspirations of the Vice-Province.

The morning concluded with the solemn celebration of the Holy Eucharist, presided over by the Rector Major. In his homily, he invited the confreres to root their missionary commitment ever more deeply in the Eucharist, the source of unity and pastoral charity.

After the Eucharistic celebration, the confreres gathered for a group photograph — a visible sign of communion with the Successor of Don Bosco — followed by a festive lunch shared in a joyful and fraternal atmosphere. The afternoon continued with a fellowship meal, allowing further moments of informal interaction and personal encounters.

The second day of the visit thus strengthened the bonds of unity between the Rector Major and the Salesians of Sri Lanka, reaffirming their shared commitment to serve the young with the heart of Don Bosco.
