In this way, the institution assumes its leadership role in preserving the local ecosystem through a strategic partnership with the SOS Mata Atlântica NGO, to regenerate the dense rainforest, capable of bringing back birds and wildlife, as well as protecting the water sources that supply the region and directly combating the effects of global warming.
The figures represent not only reforestation but the early achievement of environmental targets. With the aim of obtaining the “Green Seal”, Canção Nova positions itself within the highest standards of social and environmental responsibility. The project also serves as a beacon for other rural producers in the region, who have until 2029 to make the necessary legal adjustments.
Restoring the original biodiversity
This strategic partnership, officially established in 2023, arose from a long history of seeking technical and financial viability. “Our commitment goes beyond mere compliance with Law 12.651/12. With the completion of the planting of 255,000 saplings by 2027, we are not merely reforesting; we are restoring the region’s original biodiversity and ensuring that the João Paulo II Foundation serves as a model for water management and soil conservation across the entire Paraíba Valley,” states Antônio Carlos Souza Silvestre, manager of the Civil Engineering and Environment Department at FJPII.
Complementing this conservation effort, Canção Nova maintains other active environmental management initiatives. The institution operates its own Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and is in the final stages of reactivating two artesian wells that will supply water for Chácara Santa Cruz and adjacent areas.
With a storage capacity of 2.7 million cubic metres of water – a volume close to the total supplied by the local utility company for the entire municipality – Canção Nova ensures its self-sufficiency during periods of high pilgrim traffic, avoiding overburdening the public water supply of Cachoeira Paulista and reaffirming its socio-environmental commitment.
