(ANS – Goma) – The Salesian Industrial Technical Institute of Goma (ITIG Don Bosco), a community of St John Bosco, had the joy of welcoming Fr Guillermo Basañes, Superior of the Salesian Our Lady of the Assumption Province in Central Africa (AFC), for his canonical visit. This is the twentieth of the twenty-six visits to the works scheduled for the 2025–2026 pastoral year, the last of his term as Provincial to this community. Fr Basañes focused his visit on listening, sharing and revitalising the Salesian mission in the eastern part of the country, a region still scarred by the atrocities of last year’s war and the resulting social crisis. During Mass, Fr Basañes addressed the young people in particular, urging them to fight sin resolutely, drawing inspiration from the spirit and legacy of John Bosco, and inviting them to a life of integrity, responsibility and moral commitment. The canonical visit took place from 24 to 28 March 2026 with a well-planned programme: a meeting of the confreres, individual meetings, meetings with aspirants, discussions with the lay collaborators of the two schools in operation, namely the ITIG and the Amani-Marie Auxiliatrice primary school, meetings with all branches of the Salesian Family, and meetings with the youth leaders of the SYM and the oratory, amongst others.
