DR Congo – A canonical visit marked by gratitude, hope and mission

(ANS – Goma) – Having arrived on the afternoon of Saturday 28 March 2026 at the Don Bosco Ngangi Centre, Fr Guillermo Basañes, Provincial of the Central Africa Province (AFC), concluded his final canonical visitation to this Salesian centre on Thursday 2 April. During his stay in Ngangi, the Provincial met with all those involved in the mission: Salesians, lay collaborators, sector leaders, young people, as well as members of the Salesian Family, particularly the Salesian Cooperators. In each of these meetings, he renewed his call for a generous and courageous commitment to the service of young people, especially the poorest and most abandoned, in fidelity to the charism of Don Bosco. In an ecclesial and institutional context marked by the transition of the St Joseph Delegation of East Central Africa to the St Joseph Vice-Province of Africa Congo East (ACE), Fr Basañes encouraged all those present to experience this phase as a time of grace, heralding a missionary renewal. On 1 April, Fr Basañes also met with around thirty young people who have been victims of the violence that has plagued the North Kivu region for several years. With great care, the Provincial took the time to listen to them, urging them not to lose hope despite the difficulties they face and to believe in the possibility of a better future. The visit concluded with a fraternal gathering with the Salesians of the Ngangi community.
