(ANS – Croxteth) – More than 50 students from St John Bosco Arts College, Croxteth, brought to life a powerful contemporary retelling of The Passion, reaffirming a cherished school tradition now in its thirteenth year. Students from Years 7 to 10 portrayed the final hours of Jesus — from the Last Supper and betrayal to the trial, crucifixion and resurrection — through a moving blend of drama, music and dance. This year’s production, prepared in collaboration between school chaplain Anne Quirk and the Performing Arts Department, combined deep spirituality with creative innovation, incorporating songs from well-known musicals such as Jesus Christ Superstar, The Prince of Egypt and The Greatest Showman. A particularly poignant moment was the carrying of the cross, on which students inscribed words representing the world’s injustices, including poverty, hatred and war. For the first time, the play concluded with the introduction of a “resurrection cross,” symbolising hope and new life. Attended by parents, parishioners and members of the local community, the performance once again highlighted the school’s commitment to uniting faith and artistic expression in the spirit of Don Bosco.
