Slovenia – Easter Procession through the streets of Cerknica

(ANS – Cerknica) – Once again this year, the traditional Easter Procession took place with the Salesians joining the many faithful who walked through the streets of the town of Cerknica, in Slovenia, on Sunday 5 April 2026. The statue of the Risen Christ was carried in procession, followed by a crowd of around 500 faithful, including many children, singers and altar servers. Furthermore, the ancient canopy from the church of Cerknica, restored this very year, was displayed at the rear of the procession. This canopy, estimated to be around two hundred years old, is decorated with hand-embroidered designs which, in addition to their aesthetic value, also possess artistic merit and strong symbolism. Once again this year, therefore, the procession was imbued with great spiritual significance, representing the Resurrection of Christ, the journey from darkness to light, the unity of the faithful and the renewal of faith.
