(ANS – Nairobi) – The Salesian Province of Tanzania welcomed a new priest on 16 May 2026, as Deacon Michael Makonnen Jashome was ordained at the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians in Nairobi. The solemn Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Auxiliary Bishop Obed Muriungi of the Archdiocese of Nairobi and was marked by vibrant African cultural expressions. The church was filled with faithful, Salesians from Kenya and Tanzania, and members of the Consolata Missionaries. For Fr Makonnen, the moment was deeply personal: once an altar server at the shrine, he was ordained at the very altar where he had served as a boy.
