(ANS – Nairobi) – The Salesian Formation Centre for Africa and Madagascar (Don Bosco SAFCAM) organised a workshop on Salesian spiritual accompaniment for Salesians from various African and Madagascan Provinces and Vice-Provinces. The workshop took place at the Don Bosco Youth Educational Services (DBYES) in Nairobi, Kenya, from 1 to 9 June 2026. The main objective was to promote a culture of welcoming and offering Salesian spiritual accompaniment, recognising it as an essential dimension of personal growth, vocational discernment, community life and pastoral ministry. The programme aimed to provide participants with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to accompany young people and confreres on their journeys of faith and vocation. The seminar was led by expert speakers, including Fr Cyril Odia, Fr Philip Lazatin and Fr Gerald Umoh, under the coordination of Fr Camiel Swertvagher, Director of Don Bosco SAFCAM. Through presentations, group discussions, case studies, practical exercises and moments of personal reflection, participants were guided through the various dimensions of Salesian spiritual accompaniment. At the end of the seminar, participants were presented with certificates of attendance in recognition of their successful completion of the programme. The workshop proved to be a rich experience of learning, sharing, reflection and personal growth. It strengthened the participants’ commitment to accompanying others in the spirit of Don Bosco, characterised by attentive listening, empathy, discernment and pastoral charity. The experience also reaffirmed the importance of spiritual accompaniment as a vital ministry within the Salesian mission, contributing to the holistic formation and well-being of both the Salesians and the young people entrusted to their care.
