(ANS – Porto Velho) – Salesian missionaries have upgraded the electrical system and installed an air-conditioning system in the auditorium of the Salesian Centre in Porto Velho, Brazil, thanks to funds raised by Salesian Missions, the New Rochelle Mission Office of the Salesians of Don Bosco in the United States. More than 300 people who use the auditorium for school and parish events have benefited from the refurbishment work. Those who attend the Salesian Centre come from socio-economically vulnerable backgrounds and often lack food security or access to healthcare services. The Salesian Centre is located in an area of the city considered highly dangerous. The Salesians provide an alternative space for engagement and the building of community ties.
