(ANS – Chennai) – Don Bosco Arts and Science College, Kilpauk, in collaboration with DB Jananam and Eeranilam, inaugurated a two-day art exhibition on July 6 at DB Square on the campus, themed “Addiction to Drugs and Its Evils in Society,” promoting the message of a drug-free society through creative expression. Organised in observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the initiative forms part of the Tamil Nadu Government’s statewide anti-drug awareness campaign running from July 1 to August 31, 2026. The exhibition was inaugurated by Mr J. C. D. Prabhakar, Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, who commended the college for fostering social responsibility among youth and urged students to become ambassadors for a drug-free society. Presiding over the programme, Dr Maria Arokiaraj SDB, the Principal, highlighted the growing threat of substance abuse and stressed the role of educational institutions in nurturing values and resilience. The exhibition featured student-created paintings, posters and installations depicting the harmful effects of drug addiction, tobacco use and alcoholism, while promoting prevention, rehabilitation and healthy lifestyles. Open to school and college students across Chennai on July 6 and 7, the event provided an interactive platform for awareness and creative engagement. Among those present were Dr Aathira Naevis Prabhakar of Grace Foundation and Utopia Therapy, Fr Arokia Raj SDB, Director of DB Jananam, artist Mr Tanilarasu, Founder of Eeranilam, Dr Anbu Francis SDB, Vice Principal, faculty members, students and Salesians from SIGA Polytechnic College.
