(ANS – Wrocław) – From 1 July 2026, the Salesians of the Wrocław Province (PLO) have launched a permanent pastoral and pilgrimage service at Góra Igliczna (Mount Igliczna). The solemn agreement entrusting the Rectorial Church – the Shrine of Mary, Cause of Our Joy, ‘Our Lady of the Snows’ on Mount Igliczna – to the Salesians of Don Bosco of PLS was signed at the Diocesan Curia in Świdnica on 22 May this year. The document, signed by Bishop Marek Mendyk, Ordinary of the Diocese of Świdnica, and by the Superior of the Salesian Province of Wrocław, Fr Bartłomiej Polański, opens a new chapter in the history of one of Lower Silesia’s most famous pilgrimage sites. The presence of the Salesians at this site is set to bring fresh impetus, particularly in their work with families and pilgrims. The Shrine on Mount Igliczna (800 m above sea level), known as Our Lady of the Snows, is one of the most picturesque and spiritually vibrant places in the Sudetes and, for many years, has been a place of prayer and contemplation, of retreats and days of reflection, of individual and group pilgrimages, as well as gatherings for families and young people. In keeping with their charism, the Salesians intend to develop both traditional forms of worship and new pastoral initiatives at this site. They have announced their intention to make this place even more accessible and a source of inspiration, both for believers and for those on a spiritual quest. The entrusting of the sanctuary to the Salesians forms part of a broader vision of the diocese, which wishes to revitalise places of worship through collaboration with religious orders and congregations with a clear apostolic charism. For the Salesian Province of Wrocław, on the other hand, this represents a further space in which the Salesians can carry out their educational and pastoral mission, combining tradition with a modern approach to spirituality. The faithful and pilgrims can look forward to both the continuation of existing traditions and new initiatives which — as the Salesians emphasise — aim to ‘help people rediscover the joy of faith’.
