India – Feast of St John Bosco in the Salesian Province of Shillong
Shillong, India – January 2026 – The Salesian Province of Shillong, India (INS) celebrated the feast of St John Bosco in the Shillong region. The event brought together all members of the Salesian Family at the Don Bosco Technical School (DBTS) in Shillong. The programme began with a welcome address by Fr Shinning Dkhar, SDB, Principal of DBTS, followed by a song presented by the students of DBTS. Subsequently, Fr John Zosiama, Provincial of INS, formally introduced and congratulated the new Coordinator of the Salesian Cooperators. Fr José Varikasseril SDB then presented the Strenna for 2026. The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by the Provincial and concelebrated by 29 other priests. Several members and novices of the Salesian Family, young people from the hostel, friends and supporters were present at the Mass. During his homily, Fr Zosiama highlighted the celebration as a sign of gratitude for the gift of Don Bosco and emphasised the importance of a family spirit in which everyone feels loved, accepted and united beyond cultural differences. He recalled Don Bosco’s Preventive System, based on reason, religion and loving kindness, which encourages attentive listening to Jesus, humble service to the poor and marginalised, and fidelity to the spirit of Don Bosco, working together as one family.
