(ANS – Kimihurura) – On 21 February 2026, the Salesian Province of Africa Great Lakes (AGL) organised a full day dedicated to young people in formation on the theme of the protection of minors and vulnerable persons. Also present were Fr Rafael Bejarano, General Councillor for Youth Ministry, and Fr Alphonse Owoudou, Councillor for the Central and West Africa Region. The young Salesians in formation in Kabgayi, together with novices and prenovices, gathered at the Provincial House in Kimihurura for a formation session. The meeting, rich in teaching and fraternal exchanges, reflects the Salesian’s constant commitment to ensuring a safe, educational and Gospel-centred environment for all young people entrusted to his mission. The formators and the Superior of the AGL Province, Fr Gabriel Ngendakuriyo, emphasised the importance of developing an authentic culture of protection, which is not only a legal obligation but also a moral and spiritual commitment. Protecting minors means recognising in each of them the image of God, a sacred being entrusted to our care. The training meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on appropriate behaviour in educational relationships, the prevention of risky situations, the best way to listen to and support young people, and the need to report any suspicious situations according to established procedures.
