(ANS) – Meetings of the Parish Councils of the Salesian parishes in Spain’s St James the Greater Province (SSM) were held in recent days: Santander on 14 February, Ourense on 21 February and Salesianos Paseo de Extremadura on 28 February. The main theme of these meetings was reflection on young people and Salesian parishes, and on young people and the Church, from a synodal perspective. An initial approach to the theme was sought with different speakers at each venue. In Santander, the speaker was Fr Fernando García, SSM Provincial; in Ourense, the speaker was the Bishop of Tui-Vigo, Antonio Valín, and in Madrid, Raúl Tinajero, Director of the Secretariat for the Laity, Family and Life of the Spanish Episcopal Conference, gave the presentation. The presentations were followed by group reflection sessions and a sharing of the needs of the Salesian parishes. ‘The three meetings were joyful and very participatory, allowing us to express the needs of our parishes in order to walk together and reflect on where we should go in a parish like ours in the 21st century and how to walk in synodality with young people, making them protagonists of all our initiatives,’ says Carmelo Donoso, coordinator of the parish environment.
