(ANS – Campo Grande) – The Catholic University Dom Bosco (UCDB), in collaboration with the “Biotério e Resgate Técnico Animal” and the group “Gretap” (Technical Animal Rescue Group Cerrado Pantanal), is training teams specialized in rescuing animals in disaster situations. Guided by the renowned biologist and veterinarian Paula Helena Santa Rita, participants studied topics such as the identification of species of medical relevance, procedures to follow in case of incidents, safety protocols, risk analysis, and operational planning. During the training period, other distinguished veterinarians also contributed, including Dr Marina Lima, Dr Carlos Rodolfo Del Corona, and Dr Daniele Ayab. They presented biosafety guidelines, addressed the topic of technical rescue of small animals, and provided content related to operational organization, the use of equipment, and strategies for more complex emergency events. The training included both theoretical sessions and hands-on practice, during which participants carried out various activities aimed at operational safety, proper handling, and minimizing stress for animals—principles that guide veterinary medicine in disaster situations.
