(ANS – Port Moresby) – The first session of the Media Education Seminar took place on Saturday 14 March 2026, organised and led by Fr Ambrose Pereira, SDB, together with a group of volunteer facilitators. Eight Catholic institutions took part in the event, with over fifty participants including students and teacher-facilitators. Under the theme “Voices and Faces in the Age of AI”, Fr Ambrose opened the first session by explaining the message for World Communications Day 2026, from which the seminar’s theme was drawn. He outlined the objectives of the Media Education Seminar: to inform, educate, entertain, inspire, transform and promote social change. Fr Ambrose also highlighted Pope Leo XIV’s reflections on the growing role of AI, emphasising human dignity, the anthropological challenge and ethical AI. He identified three key pillars in the approach to AI: responsibility, cooperation and education. Various sessions then took place: Ms Patrina Kaboanga spoke about logos, their importance and their key elements; Ms Sheryll Isoaimo spoke on how to design posters with a message; Mr Leo Paraha spoke on the fundamental elements of photography. The groups then presented their practical activities, showcasing their creativity in logo design, poster creation and photography.
