Peru – The Salesians in Peru reaffirm their regional leadership in historical research and the management of documentary heritage

(ANS – Lima) – The Salesian Historical Archive of Peru hosted three members of the Historical Commission from the Salesians in Bolivia. This visit strengthened regional collaboration and reaffirmed the role of the Peruvian Province as a leader in historical research and the management of documentary heritage. The visit was organised by Fr Marcelo Escalante, Chancellor of the Salesian University of Bolivia. With the approval of Fr Juan Pablo Alcas, Superior of the Salesian Province of Peru, Fr Escalante coordinated the activities with David Franco, historian of the Salesians of Peru and director of the Salesian Historical Archive. The delegation consisted of Fr Carlos Longo, María René Ortiz and Hugo Miranda, who spent a week, from 2 to 6 March 2026, conducting intensive documentary research in the archive’s repositories. The researchers consulted manuscript, printed and photographic materials, identifying sources of particular interest for their historical and institutional objectives. During the visit, they were assisted by Salesian Fr José Gallego, Provincial Secretary, and by staff from the Salesian Historical Archives, including historian David Franco and archivist Diego Aguado. In addition to the research, the meeting facilitated a valuable exchange of professional experiences.
