Brazil – Communication Meeting of the St Pius X Province: ‘Charismatic Identity and Institutional Communication – Communicating to Serve, Form and Transform’

(ANS – Porto Alegre) – From 7 to 10 April 2026, communicators from schools, social services, the College and the provincial communications team took part in the Communication Meeting of the Salesian St Pius X Province of Porto Alegre, Brazil (BPA). Under the theme “Charismatic Identity and Institutional Communication – Communicating to Serve, Form and Transform”, the meeting aimed to strengthen unity, enhance and encourage communication within Salesian presences in southern Brazil. The event brought together professionals from various fields of activity and facilitated opportunities for formation, sharing and evaluation, integrating the charismatic and technical dimensions of communication, as well as contributing to the provincial communication plan for the next three years. Professionals from seven schools, three social works, the Dom Bosco Faculty and the provincial team were present. The programme included reflections on Salesian identity and its relationship with communication. One of the highlights was the online participation of the General Councillor for Social Communication, Fr Fidel Maria Orendain, who emphasised the centrality of communication in the Salesian mission: “Social Communication is not simply a technical task, but a mission rooted in our Salesian identity.”  Fr Orendain’s reflection also highlighted communication as a path to communion, emphasising the importance of listening, dialogue and building relationships within communities and in the mission with young people. Using SWOT analysis, participants assessed the BPA Province’s communication to gather key input for the new Provincial Social Communication Plan covering the six-year term 2026–2031.
