Brother David Metoule: a Salesian journey in the service of young people in Tropical and Equatorial Africa

Born on 29 December 1979 in Oyem, Gabon, David Metoule is a leading figure in the Salesian Congregation in Tropical and Equatorial Africa. A Gabonese national, he embodies a unique and inspiring journey, marked by a deep commitment to vocational training, education and the support of young people.

A rich and diverse academic background

Brother David has built a solid academic background, combining technical, philosophical and pedagogical training:

– Certificate of Primary Education (CEPE)

– Certificate of Professional Competence (CAP) in Carpentry and Cabinetmaking

– Baccalaureate (Series A) (literary)

– Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Humanities (Lomé, Togo)

– Bachelor’s degree in Educational Sciences, specialising in Pedagogy (UPS, Rome)

– Master’s degree in Pedagogy and School Management (UPS, Rome)

This journey reflects a harmonious progression between manual skills, philosophical reflection and pedagogical expertise.

A faithful and enduring Salesian commitment

He took his perpetual vows on 28 July 2007, committing himself definitively to Salesian life. As a Brother, he distinguished himself through his leadership and management skills in the service of Don Bosco’s educational works.

Educational responsibilities in several countries

During his missionary career, Brother David has held various important positions:

– Director of the Vocational Training Centre and head of the Youth Centre and Oratory in Oyem (2 years)

– Director of the Vocational Training Centre in Pointe-Noire (2 years)

– Principal of the Don Bosco Technical Institute in Ebolowa (6 years)

– Provincial Councillor and coordinator of the province’s schools (6 years)

– Director of the Don Bosco Vocational Training Centre in Damala (5 years)

A historic appointment in Africa

Brother David Metoule is recognised as the first Brother to be appointed rector of a Salesian community in Africa, a significant milestone in the growing recognition of Brothers in governance roles.

He is now appointed as rector of the Salesian community in Damala, Central African Republic, where he will begin his mission in September 2026, dedicated to the formation of young people and the leadership of the educational community.

A living witness to Don Bosco’s charism

Through his journey, Brother David fully embodies the Salesian spirit: closeness to young people, concrete educational commitment and a sense of service. His journey shows that the Salesian mission is lived out in the diversity of vocations, all united by the same love for young people.

Even today, in Damala, he continues to form, accompany and give hope to many young people, in fidelity to the charism of Don Bosco.
