Indonesia – BLK Don Bosco supports mothers in rural areas through digital formation
(ANS – Sumba) – Formation goes beyond technical courses for young people at the BLK Don Bosco Vocational Training Centre in Sumba. This Salesian centre also promotes family livelihoods by supporting mothers in rural areas of the districts of Kodi, Loura and Wewewa, in south-west Sumba. From 22 to 25 April 2026, Br Ephrem Santos, SDB, organised a four-day seminar on digital marketing and content creation for 21 women involved in small and micro-enterprises. The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Common Room Foundation, the local administration and several civil society partners. The participants, many of whom work in the sectors of food production, weaving, handicrafts, agricultural products and household goods, received practical formation in photography using only their mobile phones, in creating simple promotional videos, in writing effective product descriptions, in branding, and in using Artificial Intelligence tools, WhatsApp Business and social media for sales. The programme aims to help women entrepreneurs in rural and remote areas participate in the digital economy and improve their household income. Through initiatives such as this, the Salesians in Sumba carry forward the mission of St John Bosco, combining education, innovation and social commitment for the benefit of the poor and marginalised.
