DR Congo – Second edition of the Salesian Games organised by the St Joseph Delegation

(ANS) – From 25 April to 1 May 2026, the second edition of the Salesian Games took place, organised by the Salesians of Don Bosco of the St Joseph Delegation of Central-East Africa. Held at three Salesian venues – Goma, Ngangi, ITIG and Boscolac – the sporting events brought together primary and secondary school pupils from various schools in Goma and the Nyiragongo area, in a distinctly educational, Christian and Salesian spirit. Football, basketball and volleyball provided a context for learning essential values: solidarity, discipline, teamwork, respect for the rules and fair play. The competitions involved various age groups, with significant participation from Salesian, Catholic, state and private schools. This diversity fostered rich interaction among the young people, strengthening unity and a sense of community. Another highlight of this edition was the greater involvement of girls, particularly in football and basketball, demonstrating an inclusive approach and a commitment to providing every young person with a space to express and develop their talents. The games kicked off on Saturday 25 April at the ITIG/Don Bosco premises, with the blessing of Fr Matthias Amani, Rector of the centre and Prefect of Studies at the Industrial Technical Institute of Goma (ITIG). Fr Gauthier Tshibangu, Provincial Delegate of the St Joseph Delegation, officially opened the final day.
