Colombia – Cultivating our vocation: a day dedicated to the holistic wellbeing of Salesians
(ANS – Bogotá) – In an effort to address the challenges of emotional health and wellbeing in the exercise of religious ministry, the Salesian Province of Bogotá, Colombia (COB) organised a formation symposium ‘Cultivating the holistic vocation of the Salesian’. The event, held at the Provincial House in Bogotá, brought together Salesians to analyse the dynamics of human wellbeing at different stages of consecrated life. The meeting was led by Fr Hernán Alzate, CJM, a specialist from the Institute of Psychology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, and Dr Yolima Ortiz, director of the degree course in Psychology at the Minuto de Dios University (UNIMINUTO). This inter-institutional collaboration enabled the integration of a theological perspective with cutting-edge clinical tools for managing stress and ministerial burnout. The workshop was structured around the principle of ‘reinterpreting life’, with the aim of helping participants identify breaking points and accumulated exhaustion, in order to transform them into opportunities for renewal. The workshops focused in particular on emotional regulation and self-care, essential tools for ensuring the quality of the social and educational services offered by the institution in the most challenging regions of Colombia. During the community assessment session, the internal factors influencing the quality of life of the organisation’s members were analysed. The ultimate aim is to develop a roadmap that promotes a healthy working environment and a more humane ministry, ensuring the emotional well-being of those leading the transformation processes within the province.
