(ANS – Santo Domingo) – The Association of Salesian Cooperators in the Dominican Republic celebrated the 150th anniversary of its foundation on Saturday 9 May 2026, a historic milestone for the lay movement inspired by Don Bosco and for the entire Salesian Family. The commemorative day centred on a solemn Eucharist in Santo Domingo Cathedral, presided over by Bishop Manuel Antonio Ruiz and concelebrated by Salesian priests from various local centres across the country. The anniversary invites the ASC and the entire ecclesial community to reflect on the relevance of the Salesian charism and its transformational power in the world. Under the motto “Be leaven to be fruitful”, the ASC renew their commitment to being an evangelical presence in everyday spheres – family, work, community, school and social life – acting as leaven that fosters human and Christian growth, especially among young people. The local celebration took place concurrently with the 6th World Congress of the Association held in Rome to promote a global and updated vision of Salesian lay service, calling for a strengthening of support for young people and families in increasingly complex contexts.
