(ANS – Kraków) – The diaconate ordination of eight young Salesians was celebrated on Saturday 16 May 2026, in the Salesian church of St Stanislaus Kostka in Dębniki, Krakpw: Piotr Bednarczyk, Szymon Ogórek and David Swęd (PLS); Szymon Gil, Marek Halusiak, Grzegorz Sell and Kamil Szczerbak (PLO); Radosław Kołodziejczak (PLN). The celebration was presided over by Bishop Vitaliy Kryvytskyj, Bishop of Zhytomyr, Kyiv SDB. In attendance, alongside the parents, relatives and friends of the eight new deacons, were young people, various Salesians, the Superiors of the Salesian Provinces of Poland, and members of the Salesian Family. The Provincial of Krakow, Fr Dariusz Bartocha, then took the floor, thanking the bishop for his presence, having driven the entire journey from Kyiv to Krakow himself to preside over the Holy Mass and confer the ordinations. Fr Bartocha also expressed his joy at the large number of people gathered in the church, and did not fail to mention and invite everyone to the forthcoming beatification of Fr Jan Świerc and his eight fellow martyrs, which will take place on 6 June 2026 at the Shrine of St John Paul II. And to conclude, the Bishop, taking the floor before imparting the final blessing, recalled his own ordination to the diaconate in the Salesian church in Dębniki, received together with other Salesians in that very church thirty years ago.
