Ecuador – The Daughters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary to strengthen their educational and pastoral presence in the Salesian Mission of Yaupi

(ANS – Quito) – Sister Eulalia Marín, Superior General of the Institute of the Daughters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, the eighth group of the Salesian Family, has accepted the request from Fr Marcelo Farfán, Provincial of the Salesians in Ecuador, to send a community of religious sisters to the Mission in Yaupi. This mission is dedicated to the pastoral care of the Shuar people and is located in the Vicariate of Méndez and Gualaquiza. In her letter, Sister Eulalia expressed sincere gratitude for the trust placed in the Institute and for the opportunity to work amongst vulnerable populations who require a close, generous and hope-filled evangelical presence, deeply valuing the pastoral vision and the spirit of ecclesial and charismatic communion inherent in the proposal. On Monday 1 June 2026, at the Provincial House, the first meeting was held to define the course of action for the arrival of the religious sisters at the Salesian Mission in Yaupi. The meeting was attended by Fr Marcelo Farfán, his Vice-Provincial, Fr Juan Flores and the Rector of Yaupi, Fr Fabián Lozada, together with the delegates of the Daughters of the Sacred Hearts: Sr Flor Angela Aguirre, the Vicar Sr Narcisa Malacatus and Economer Sr Martha Salazar. The discussion focused in particular on the coordination for the opening of a residence for girls, a space that will provide education and a safe haven for young women in the region.
