(ANS – Fatorda) – In a significant step towards integrating modern technology with evangelisation, the Salesians of the Panjim Province, India (INP) gathered for a specialist seminar on Artificial Intelligence, exploring how emerging digital tools can strengthen pastoral ministry in Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra. The event took place on 9 June 2026 at the Don Bosco Engineering College in Fatorda, Goa. The seminar brought together 42 Salesians, including Fr Clive Telles, INP Provincial, members of the Provincial Council, rectors, those in charge, heads and members of various commissions, to understand the opportunities and challenges presented by AI, especially in advancing the mission of the Church and the Congregation in this digital age. Considerable attention was given to an in-depth study of Pope Leo XIV’s first Encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas. Quoting the Pope, it was emphasised that AI should be regarded as a tool that supports, rather than replaces, the personal and relational dimension of ministry. The discussions highlighted the ethical use of AI, the importance of safeguarding human dignity, and the Church’s responsibility to guide technological development on the basis of gospel values. The seminar concluded with a renewed commitment from the participants to use technology responsibly and always in the service of evangelisation, education and youth ministry, in line with the Salesian charism of St John Bosco.
