(ANS – Goiânia) – On 2 June, the Salesian Apprenticeship Centre (CESAM) in Goiânia was awarded the “Zilda Arns” Social Honour by the city’s Municipal Council. The award is intended for institutions and individuals who distinguish themselves in promoting assistance, protection and the safeguarding of the rights of children, adolescents, women and the elderly. The award is named after Dr Zilda Arns, a paediatrician and public health specialist, one of Brazil’s leading figures in the field of life promotion and child protection. By paying tribute to institutions that carry out initiatives with a social impact, the honour thus highlights efforts that contribute to building a fairer, more humane and inclusive society. The award conferred upon CESAM Goiânia therefore represents public recognition of a journey built over 52 years of social, educational and vocational formation activities in support of the young people of Goiânia. Through the Social Learning Programme, the institution has contributed to the inclusion, civic formation and preparation of adolescents and young people for the world of work. With comprehensive support based on Don Bosco’s Preventive System and a commitment to young people in situations of social vulnerability, its mission has already had an impact on over 37,000 families throughout its history. Throughout its history, CESAM Goiânia has responded to social changes and the new needs of young people through formation that integrates professional qualifications, human development and citizenship. More than just institutional recognition, therefore, the award highlights the importance of the work carried out on a daily basis and the dedication of educators, volunteers, partner companies and apprentices.
