(ANS – Aptos) – The Salesian Youth Leadership Conference (SYLC) is currently taking place in Aptos, California. This event is a milestone in Salesian-style youth leadership formation within the Salesian Province of the Western United States. The SYLC has, in fact, helped generations of young people to become leaders in their communities, schools, parishes and pastoral activities. What began as a small gathering has become a much-loved annual event. This year, more than 135 young people and adult leaders have gathered to celebrate their Salesian identity. During the conference, participants engage in prayer, formation sessions, community-building activities, leadership workshops and joyful celebrations. Fr Rafael Bejarano, General Councillor for Youth Ministry, is also present this year. His presence was greatly appreciated by all those present. Fr Bejarano, whilst celebrating Mass for the community, encouraged the young people during his homily to be protagonists in their faith. The Councillor for Youth Ministry will remain in Aptos for the entire week, with the aim of continuing to respond to the needs of the communities with courage, mutual trust and faith in God.
