(ANS – Rímac) – Over sixty young people have taken the first step towards realising a project that aims to form a polyphonic choir, teach music and, in the future, establish a youth symphony orchestra. At a time when screens seem to be taking up more and more space in the lives of children and teenagers, a different kind of melody has been heard at the St John Bosco Salesian Oratory in Rímac: the voices of dozens of young people who have decided to invest in art, friendship and personal growth. The first phase of this project – ‘Voices that Speak to Infinity’ – brought together young people aged between 8 and 14, with the aim of discovering talent, developing individuals and opening up new horizons through music. For Professor Américo Manzuelos, Director of this new musical initiative, the experience made a very positive impression right from the start. But the project goes far beyond simply learning songs. Whilst the first phase involves the formation of a four-part polyphonic choir – carefully prepared and supported by a solid teaching plan – the next phase aims to teach participants the art of the Peruvian cajón, an instrument emblematic of Peru’s cultural identity. The vision is therefore even more ambitious. Whilst the young people strengthen their vocal and musical formation, each will discover their own interests and abilities, enabling them to take up the study of other instruments. Behind this initiative lies a certainty that is constantly reaffirmed: when young people are offered a serious, accessible and meaningful opportunity, they respond with enthusiasm.
