Quito, Ecuador \u2013 January 2026 \u2013 As part of the commemoration of 130 years of Salesian presence in the La Tola neighbourhood of Quito, Fr Francisco S\u00e1nchez, SDB, Rector of the Postnovitiate and a key figure in the Don Bosco Salesian school, gave an opening address entitled \u2018The Salesian presence in Ecuador: 130 years of institutional life\u2019. The event was aimed at school authorities, members of the Student Council, class presidents, parents, as well as teaching, administrative and support staff, with the aim of strengthening the sense of community and shared responsibility in education. Fr S\u00e1nchez gave a historical overview of the main stages of Salesian work in the country, recalling that the first Salesians arrived in Ecuador in 1888, sent directly by Don Bosco, with the mission of educating and accompanying children and young people, especially those most in need. In 1896, the land at La Tola was acquired to found a Salesian institution in Quito, a process marked by the tensions of the Liberal Revolution, which led to the temporary expulsion of the Salesians and the expropriation of their property. Despite this, the institution was supported and with the return of the community, the college, primary school, oratory and workshops were consolidated. During the 20th century, the institution strengthened itself as the Don Bosco Technical College and expanded its educational offering, making La Tola the \u201cmother house\u201d of Salesian education in the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
