The school was built as part of the“Juzoor – A School for Freedom” project, promoted by the Salesian NGO “VIS – International Volunteering for Development” together with several associations from Piedmont: the Toni Lucci School of Peace in Bra, the Bra Youth Council, the Cuneo Network for Palestine, and with the patronage of the Municipality of Bra, as well as a network of Italian and Palestinian partners. The initiative mobilised over 500 donors – 80% of whom were families, students and small groups – raising more than €120,000: a grassroots mobilisation that turned solidarity into action, a bridge between Italy and Palestine built on trust, responsibility and participation.<\/p>\n
‘Juzoor’, in Arabic, means ‘roots’: a name that encapsulates the underlying idea, namely to build free and solid foundations and identities for the future through education.<\/p>\n
Work began on 26 November 2025 and took shape rapidly, becoming a powerful symbol: building whilst destruction rages all around.<\/p>\n
The building comprises four classrooms, a nursery area, facilities and an internal courtyard: a simple yet essential environment that provides children with a safe place to study and grow.<\/p>\n
Today, the children go to school; those classrooms are filled with voices, exercise books and smiles. Girls and boys sitting at their desks, lined up in the courtyard, together with their teachers.<\/p>\n
The school is much more than a building; it represents a clear choice: investing in education as a means of dignity, protection and a future. The project is already looking ahead, with new initiatives planned, including psychological support, paediatric care and the construction of a second school in the Yatta area. And another step is already underway: the Aisha Khalil School, in the Yatta district (Hebron Governorate), in Area C, near the hills of Masafer Yatta.<\/p>\n
In Khallet Taha, it is not just a school that has been opened, but a real opportunity for the future.<\/p>\n
