(ANS – Rome)<\/strong> – The meeting of the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) of the Americas took place online on Saturday 11 July 2026, bringing together representatives from all the countries and the various Salesian provinces across the continent. The virtual gathering was attended by Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB), Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA), young representatives and leaders of the SYM, in a meaningful moment of dialogue and sharing.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The initiative arose from a desire to continue the journey of communion and collaboration amongst the various groups within the Salesian Youth Movement of the Americas, offering a space for mutual listening, discernment and shared planning. In particular, the meeting enabled provincial leaders and the young people present to discuss the current state of the SYM in different contexts and to identify concrete guidelines for its development at regional and continental levels.<\/p>\n

The gathering was inspired by the dreams and visions set out in the Final Document of the 2024 Salesian Youth Synod, which calls for the building of an increasingly global Salesian Youth Movement, capable of fostering the exchange of experiences and the joint development of shared initiatives. At the same time, the importance of a SYM that is increasingly present and visible in the life of the Church was reaffirmed – one that is open to encounters between different cultures and capable of strengthening young people’s sense of belonging to the Salesian Family.<\/p>\n

A concrete sign of this communion was the very process of preparing for the meeting, jointly led by Sister Herlinda Palomino, FMA, and Fr Carlos Mendez, SDB, representing the Councillors for Youth Ministry and the global leaders of the Salesian Youth Movement from the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians and the Salesians of Don Bosco. Through this shared work, the collaboration between the two institutions in the service of young people and the Salesian Youth Movement has been further enhanced. In this context, the SYM continues to emerge as a privileged space for co-responsibility, communion and participation, capable of fostering a Salesian Family that is ever more united and attentive to the voice of the younger generations.<\/p>\n

During the dialogue, participants shared the key strengths and challenges present in their various national contexts. Their reflections revealed the Movement’s great vitality across the different countries, alongside an awareness of the challenges accompanying educational and pastoral work with young people in the current context.<\/p>\n

The meeting concluded with the identification of some common areas of focus for future work. Among these, particular emphasis was placed on the need to strengthen the bonds between the various groups, representatives and organisations that make up the Salesian Youth Movement across the Americas, fostering a closer and more stable network of relationships. There was also a desire to promote greater opportunities for meeting, exchange and collaboration at regional and continental levels, so that the Movement may grow in communion, participation and the ability to provide shared responses to the challenges facing young people.<\/p>\n

The meeting represented a further step on the path towards consolidating the Salesian Youth Movement of the Americas, confirming the desire to build together a pastoral project that is increasingly coordinated, missionary and rooted in the charism of Don Bosco and Mother Mazzarello.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
