The visit provided an opportunity to gain a first-hand understanding of the educational and social impact of the Salesian missionaries’ projects in the country.

The visit began at the Canillitas con Don Bosco centre, where the delegation was shown the road safety project promoted by the Mapfre Foundation to ensure safer travel for the boys and girls at the centre. During the visit, Infanta Elena emphasised the importance of raising awareness and improving road safety education, given the impact that road accidents continue to have in the country. For her part, Elvira Vega explained that the Mapfre Foundation’s road safety education programme “is essential for promoting a culture of safe mobility”.

In the afternoon, the visit continued at the St Dominic Savio School, home to the Social and Sports School run by Misiones Salesianas, the Salesian Mission Office in Madrid, in collaboration with the Real Madrid Foundation. There, they were able to watch the football and basketball training sessions of the boys and girls taking part in the project and took part in a meeting with the young people, who shared their personal stories and recounted their experiences.

Sport: a fundamental educational tool for children’s development and independence

Infanta Elena encouraged the children and teenagers to continue studying, developing their skills and enjoying sport. She also emphasised that what they gain from these schools goes beyond simply playing sport, because “it helps to foster respect, independence, cooperation and teamwork”.

The Real Madrid Foundation social and sports schools in the Dominican Republic began operating in 2012 and are based at the Plaza Educativa Don Bosco and the Hogar Escuela Santo Domingo Savio. The programme, funded by the Mapfre Foundation since 2014, offers children safe environments, educational guidance, psychological support, family support, medical check-ups and values-based formation, in line with Don Bosco’s Preventive System.

Over 3,000 boys and girls have already benefited from this educational and social partnership. Through the methodology of the Real Madrid Foundation and the Salesian educational approach, sport becomes a tool for promoting respect, team spirit, commitment, equality and solidarity. In the Dominican Republic, these social and sporting schools offer boys, girls and teenagers the opportunity to grow up in a safe environment, supported by educators and role models who help them to strengthen their skills, improve their formation and build a future full of opportunities.

(ANS – Santo Domingo) – The St Dominic Savio Social and Sports School in the Dominican Republic recently welcomed a […]

[38,785

post-6029056","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-social","category-sociale
["GET
