El lienzo, hallado originalmente en un mercado de segunda mano por un comprador privado y custodiado hasta hoy dentro de una colecci&oacute;n particular, representa un valor a&ntilde;adido para el patrimonio cultural de Valdocco y de toda la Familia Salesiana. Esta novedad se suma a otro importante estudio ya pose&iacute;do por la instituci&oacute;n: uno de los bocetos realizados por el mismo Lorenzone para la monumental pala de altar de Mar&iacute;a Auxiliadora.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Perfil biogr&aacute;fico y art&iacute;stico del autor<\/strong><br \/> Tommaso Andrea Lorenzone se form&oacute; en la Academia Albertina de Tur&iacute;n, donde se inscribi&oacute; en 1838. Bajo la gu&iacute;a de maestros del calibre de Giovanni Battista Biscarra (1790 &#8211; 1851), el artista desarroll&oacute; una cifra estil&iacute;stica de matriz clasicista, progresivamente enriquecida por sugerencias rom&aacute;nticas.<\/p>\n<p>Su carrera expositiva comenz&oacute; en las muestras anuales de la Sociedad Promotora de Bellas Artes de Tur&iacute;n y continu&oacute; en los salones de la Academia Albertina. En 1859, con una&nbsp; s&oacute;lida fama en el panorama pict&oacute;rico turin&eacute;s, Lorenzone eligi&oacute; abandonar la actividad expositiva para dedicarse enteramente a los encargos privados e institucionales. Su producci&oacute;n, capaz de moverse con soltura entre la pintura de g&eacute;nero, la narraci&oacute;n hist&oacute;rica y el retrato para la aristocracia, la burgues&iacute;a y el alto clero, encontr&oacute; sin embargo su v&eacute;rtice en la tem&aacute;tica sagrada, tanto que Don Bosco escribi&oacute; en 1875: &ldquo;Lorenzone, cuya val&iacute;a, especialmente en obras de sujeto religioso, no necesita palabras para ser conocida&rdquo;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>El v&iacute;nculo con Don Bosco y la g&eacute;nesis de la obra<\/strong><br \/> El lazo entre el pintor y Don Bosco fue profundo y sin&eacute;rgico. Lorenzone fue, de hecho, el artista elegido para la realizaci&oacute;n del cuadro del altar mayor dedicado a Mar&iacute;a Auxiliadora. Para el lienzo de san Jos&eacute; de 1872, el proceso creativo sigui&oacute; la misma din&aacute;mica de estrecha colaboraci&oacute;n. Seg&uacute;n lo transmitido por las fuentes hist&oacute;ricas y por las notas posteriores del padre Fedele Giraudi, la elaboraci&oacute;n iconogr&aacute;fica naci&oacute; directamente de la voluntad del comitente: &ldquo;El mismo Don Bosco hab&iacute;a dado al pintor el dibujo de la composici&oacute;n simb&oacute;lica por &eacute;l deseada&rdquo;.<\/p>\n<p>Aunque no existen documentos coet&aacute;neos que lo confirmen formalmente, la estructura de la obra refleja los precisos dict&aacute;menes teol&oacute;gicos del santo, quien visit&oacute; varias veces el estudio del pintor para seguir el avance de los trabajos y solicitar su cumplimiento para la obra de Mar&iacute;a Auxiliadora. Tambi&eacute;n el padre Giraudi recuerda que: &ldquo;Las figuras est&aacute;n todas en primer plano porque Don Bosco, aun deseando honrar de modo especial a san Jos&eacute;, a quien el altar est&aacute; dedicado, quiso que el cuadro representase a la Sagrada Familia&rdquo;.<\/p>\n<p>Respecto a otras composiciones, en el lienzo de 1872 Lorenzone ampli&oacute; el espacio en la parte inferior de la pintura para insertar, con minucia de detalles, la misma iglesia de Mar&iacute;a Auxiliadora y el ambiente circundante en el que se alzaba. La eficacia de esta f&oacute;rmula compositiva y el estudio de las figuras principales permanecieron como un punto fijo en la producci&oacute;n tard&iacute;a del artista, que las propuso casi id&eacute;nticas en obras sucesivas, como la Sagrada Familia de 1899 conservada en Asti.<\/p>\n<p>La cronolog&iacute;a de la conclusi&oacute;n del lienzo est&aacute; documentada tambi&eacute;n por el epistolario. Don Bosco, hall&aacute;ndose fuera de Tur&iacute;n, escrib&iacute;a al don Rua: &ldquo;Entre don Cagliero y el don Savio pensad en el cuadro de san Jos&eacute; que est&aacute; en poder del se&ntilde;or Lorenzone terminado, y no falta m&aacute;s que el marco, luego que se ponga en su lugar&rdquo;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>La iconograf&iacute;a espiritual en las palabras de Don Bosco<\/strong><br \/> Con ocasi&oacute;n de la publicaci&oacute;n monogr&aacute;fica posterior a la consagraci&oacute;n de la iglesia de Mar&iacute;a Auxiliadora, en 1878, fue el mismo Don Bosco quien describi&oacute; detalladamente la compleja estructura simb&oacute;lica de la pintura, a&uacute;n no terminada: &ldquo;En la nave a la izquierda se halla el altar dedicado a san Jos&eacute;. El cuadro del santo es trabajo del artista Tommaso Lorenzone. La composici&oacute;n es simb&oacute;lica. El Salvador es presentado en edad infantil en el acto que ofrece una cesta de flores a la santa Virgen casi diciendo: <em>flores mei, flores honoris et honestatis<\/em>. Su Augusta Madre dice de ofrecerlo a san Jos&eacute; su esposo, a fin de que por mano de &eacute;l sean regalados a los fieles que a manos levantadas los est&aacute;n esperando. Las flores figuran las gracias que Jes&uacute;s ofrece a Mar&iacute;a, mientras ella constituye a san Jos&eacute; absoluto dispensador, como justamente lo saluda la Santa Iglesia: <em>constituit eum dominum domus suae<\/em>&rdquo;.<\/p>\n<p>La identificaci&oacute;n y la exposici&oacute;n de este boceto preparatorio constituyen un momento de notable relieve para los estudios iconogr&aacute;ficos, art&iacute;sticos e hist&oacute;ricos sobre el patrimonio salesiano.
