Myanmar – Salesian missionaries have a new tractor thanks to funding from Salesian Missions
Anisakan, Myanmar – January 2026 – Salesian missionaries were able to purchase a tractor for the Nazareth Boarding House located in Anisakan, Myanmar, thanks to funding from Salesian Missions, the US Salesian Mission Office in New Rochelle. The donation is having a positive impact on the 170 boys who live there, 20 people who work on the farm, and 15 staff members who work in the house. Farmers in Anisakan face many challenges, such as rising transportation costs and climate change, which have a negative impact on agriculture in the region. With many parts of the country afflicted by civil war, crops cannot be shipped or sold to other areas. The Salesians own a 12-acre farm where they grow various types of vegetables. Previously, they had to rent a tractor to work the fields. The cost was high, and sometimes they were unable to get one when they needed it. As a result, they were late for the harvest. By owning a tractor, the Salesians will save money and be able to plow whenever they want, helping to make the farm more productive.
