Nice, France – 1875 – This black and white photograph transports us to the city of Nice (France) at the end of the 19th century. The imposing building, with its classical architecture, wrought iron balconies, and shuttered windows, stands as a silent witness to an era. In this context, on 9 November 1875, four Salesians arrived in Nice and settled in an old spinning mill on Victor Street. Don Bosco himself, urged by the leaders of the St Vincent de Paul Conference, had decided to send them. Thus, Nice, a city on the border between different cultures, became the point of entry for Salesian pedagogy in France.
