Argentina – Salesians begin their journey of preparation for Perpetual Profession with a pilgrimage to Patagonia

Argentina – January 2026 – The preparation course for Perpetual Profession of the Salesians of the South Cone Region began on Tuesday 6 January in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The candidates are living an experience that intertwines faith, history and missionary spirit, setting out on a pilgrimage to Junín de los Andes, where they will remain until 23 January. The formation course brings together young Salesian religious from Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Ecuador and represents a time of spiritual preparation for those who are preparing to make a definitive commitment to Salesian consecrated life. The course is coordinated by Fr Manuel Cayo, who on 4 February will take up the post of new Provincial of Argentina South (ARS). The opening Mass, celebrated on 6 January in the Mater Misericordiae Church, was presided over by Fr Darío Perera, current ARS Provincial. At the end of the Mass the group left for Bahía Blanca, and on 7 January, Mass was celebrated in the María Auxiliadora Chapel, where Blessed Laura Vicuña rests. On 8 January, the day will be dedicated to St Artemides Zatti, with Mass celebrated in the Parish of St John Bosco, where the saint’s tomb is located, and a visit to the places that marked his life and mission. On 9 January, the group will travel to Chimpay to visit the places associated with the young Mapuche Blessed Zeferino Namuncurá and San Ignacio, where his tomb is located. In the afternoon, the group will move to Junín de los Andes, where they will remain until the end of the course.
