Venezuela – Salesian diaconate ordinations: a clear example of a Church that goes beyond borders
Caracas, Venezuela – January 2026 – Tomislav Puskarić (Croatia), Petrus Nanwar (India), and Venezuelans Yetson Graterol and Rafael Guánchez were ordained deacons on Saturday 10 January at the parish of Mary Help of Christians in Boleíta, Caracas. The ceremony was presided over by Bishop Pablo González of the Diocese of La Guaira, who conferred the order on the new deacons. The Eucharistic celebration was concelebrated by Bishop Juan Carlos Bravo Salazar of the Diocese of Petare, Fr Rafael Montenegro, Superior of the Salesian Province of Venezuela (VEN), and a large group of religious and priests from various parts of the country. During his homily, Bishop González noted that this ordination ‘is a clear example of a Church that goes beyond borders’, alluding to the diversity of nationalities of the new ministers, and invited them to live their ministry with a missionary spirit in the service of young people wherever they are sent. Family and friends of the new deacons, as well as members of various groups of the Salesian Family, filled the church in a moment of profound vocational joy and renewal of commitment to the service of the Church and young people.
