The religious were inspired by the excellent visibility of the recent Symposium and General Assembly (May 2025) of the Confederation of Conferences of Major Superiors of Africa and Madagascar (COSMAM), widely broadcast by the media of the Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conference (SACBC) and Radio Veritas. In addition to a solid knowledge of cyber security, learning how to ensure the continuity of the Congregation’s digital platforms, participants had the opportunity to learn more about Catholic journalism (content, attitude, advice, etiquette).
A practical communication exercise on the ‘Joy of the Gospel’ involved the creation of videos in small groups of three religious. On the campus of the Salesian Provincial House, short videos were created consisting of vocational testimonies, dances and songs. Although not perfect, this moment of personal involvement allowed the communicators to test simple editing techniques and build teamwork. The videos are currently available on the LCCL-SA Facebook page.
Following this first workshop by the communications team, it is now necessary to organise regular quarterly formation sessions in order to learn more basic communication skills and involve more young religious as volunteers on the LCCL-SA digital platforms (Facebook, Instagram, website, WhatsApp channel and YouTube).
The LCCL-SA, the Conference of Superiors of Consecrated Life in South Africa, Botswana and eSwatini, brings together approximately 2,100 religious men and women from 98 Congregations who work together in 13 different commissions: Talitha Kum, Health Ministry, Education, Formation, Youth, Evangelisation, Finance, Ecumenism and Communication.
