Ecuador – The Salesian Province of Ecuador presents its report on the 2025 Missionary Campaign
The success of the Missionary Campaign was made possible thanks to the commitment and spirit of solidarity of the Salesians, lay people, children, young people, parents and various groups of the Salesian Family in Ecuador. Bingo, lotteries, meal sales, missionary fairs and sports championships were some of the activities that took place in the houses, all with the same purpose: to help those most in need.
First, Fr Marcelo Coronel, Delegate for Mission Animation, reviewed the results achieved during the 2024 Missionary Campaign. He presented each project, the funds allocated, the rate of execution of resources, and the number of beneficiaries. Next, Fr Juan Flores, Vice-Provincial, thanked all those who contributed to continuing to make Don Bosco’s dream possible. ‘This campaign was not just a fundraiser,’ he said, ‘it was a living testimony that when we walk together, hope becomes reality.’
The resources were allocated to various projects, such as scholarships for children and young people in South Sudan, the renovation of the missionary house in Taisha, the purchase of land for the construction of two centres in Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, and the financing of the ‘Una Tazza Piena’ (A Full Cup) initiative and formation courses in Machala.
Fr Marcelo Farfán, ECU Provincial, presented symbolic cheques to each of the houses benefiting from this contribution. Despite the geographical distance, Fr Heraldo Bosquez, an Ecuadorian missionary working in South Sudan, connected remotely and expressed his gratitude for the support received, which will guarantee a decent education for this population affected by poverty and violence.
Before concluding the presentation of the report, Fr Farfán emphasised that the results of the 2025 Campaign show that the missionary spirit is growing in all those who are part of the province. Regarding the contribution sent to South Sudan, he stressed the importance of not thinking only of ‘us’, but of opening up to look at other Salesian realities and being in solidarity with them.
‘In the Gospel, Jesus expressed a missionary mandate: go and preach the Gospel to all creatures, baptising them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. We continue to live out this mandate of Jesus here in our province, in our service to so many young people, children and adolescents, giving priority to indigenous peoples and the most vulnerable children. There, we express our missionary commitment more radically’ were the final words of the Provincial.
Exceeding the initial goal, the resources will also contribute to the purchase of a vehicle for the Salesian Mission in Wasakentsa, participate in the initial construction work of the Centres in Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, and promote other projects focused on priority groups.
