India – Strengthening the Bonds of Unity within the Salesian Family
The programme began in a prayerful atmosphere and was enriched by cultural presentations that highlighted the dynamism and vitality of the Salesian spirit. Representatives of the different groups of the Salesian Family, such as the SDB, FMA, SMA, ASC, ADMA, Past Pupils, VDB, CDB, and the Disciples of Jesus, participated in the gathering, offering a visible sign of unity in shared mission.
In his address, the Rector Major invited the Salesian Family to renew its understanding of Salesian identity. To love Don Bosco authentically, he noted, one must first know him deeply. He emphasized that the Salesian charism is a gift of the Holy Spirit and must be lived with seriousness and authenticity, ensuring both spiritual depth and qualitative growth as the Family continues to expand.
Reflecting on the Strenna theme, “Do Whatever He Tells You,” Fr Attard encouraged those present to imitate Mary at Cana: to observe attentively, listen carefully, discern wisely, and act generously. Placing what we have into the hands of Jesus with trust, he said, allows the mission to bear lasting fruit.
A significant moment of the evening was the awarding of certificates to the first batch of delegates of the Salesian Lay Leadership Programme (SLLP). The initiative, inspired two years ago by Fr Attard in line with General Chapter 28, seeks to promote the formation of lay leaders who share co-responsibility in the Salesian mission. The two-year programme was designed and implemented by Don Bosco Kalvi Solai, guided by a team of Salesian formators and educators dedicated to the formation of lay collaborators.
Earlier in the afternoon, the Rector Major visited the FMA Sisters at Auxilium College. In his message to them, he described community life as a precious gift called to be a living witness of joy, hope, and trust. When love and mutual sharing are authentically lived, he affirmed, the mission flourishes. Entrusting them to Mary Help of Christians, he encouraged them to renew their vocation with fresh zeal and confidence.
The evening concluded as a tangible expression of unity and shared mission, renewing the commitment of the Salesian Family and reaffirming that Don Bosco’s dream remains alive in the faithful witness of his spiritual sons and daughters.
