Argentina – Fr Stefano Martoglio visits the Province of Argentina North (ARN)
Upon his arrival, Fr Martoglio began his visit with Casa Zatti, where he met his elderly confreres and those who are going through a period of illness. Fr Adrián Botta SDB, Rector of Pius X, emphasised the significance of this initial gesture: ‘It was a very significant moment, in which the elderly confreres were able to introduce themselves with great joy, tell who they are and share their vocational history. There was an atmosphere of great fraternity.’
Afterwards, Fr Martoglio shared a snack with the local Salesian community and, together with Brother Nelson Manucci, visited the Salesian University Residence. There he greeted the young residents and toured the facility. The Vicar of the Rector Major expressed his joy at seeing how the residence had been renovated and reinvented, integrating the old and the new, while keeping the Salesian identity alive.
The day continued in the parish church, where Fr Martoglio visited the crypt and the upper church and presided over the Eucharistic celebration, which was attended by the faithful of the parish community.
During his homily, he emphasised the universal value of the Word of God: he recalled that, although he is Italian, ‘the same Word that is proclaimed in Italy is also proclaimed in Argentina and is called to become life in every person’. He thus emphasised that ‘the law of the Lord is the Lord himself, who watches over, protects and cares for each of his children’.
The visit of the Vicar of the Rector Major to Cordoba left a strong mark of closeness, communion and renewal of the Salesian spirit in the community, which celebrated 120 years of Salesian presence in the city in 2025.
Fr Martoglio’s visit is part of the consultations for the election of the new Provincial of ARN.
