Italy – ‘Don Bosco. The saint of young people and sport’: a new documentary coming soon
The trailer for ‘Don Bosco. The saint of young people and sport’ was unveiled on the eve of the Feast of St John Bosco and was immediately welcomed as a wonderful surprise for the entire Salesian Youth Sports Association (PGS) family at national level in Italy and beyond.
The work unfolds as a special journey into the heart of Salesian sport, with the PGS as the protagonists of a story that traces the history of oratories and those who, even today, make them a way of life.
The documentary takes the viewer through places of sport and experiences that continue to shape Don Bosco’s educational charism, where sport is not just competition, but relationship, community building and individual growth. It is a choral story, entrusted to those who live in these environments every day, transforming play into an opportunity for encounter and formation.
Numerous authoritative testimonies enrich the narrative journey: from Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça to the Salesian world, represented by the Rector Major of the Salesians, Fr Fabio Attard, and the Mother General of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA), Sister Chiara Cazzuola, together with Sister Francesca Scibetta, FMA national representative for PGS, and Fr Francesco Preite, president of Salesians for Social and national representative of the National Centre of Salesian Works (CNOS) for PGS.
There was also space for contributions from Past Pupils of the Salesians: the president of the Italian Basketball Federation, Gianni Petrucci, and Ciro Bisogno, current president of the PGS. Then there was the former Italian volleyball coach and current Member of Parliament, Mauro Berruto, as well as journalist Francesco Giorgino. Completing the mosaic are the voices of coaches and athletes from yesterday and today, including footballer Edoardo Bove and Valerio Vermiglio, Olympic silver medallist in volleyball at Athens 2004.
Ahead of its public release on Sky Sport and Now, the trailer is already available online.
