Italy – San Tommaso Theological Institute Messina, presentation of Pope Leo XIV’s Apostolic Exhortation “Dilexi te”

(ANS – Messina) –  A well-attended study meeting was held on February 19 at the San Tommaso Theological Institute (ITST), dedicated to the presentation of Pope Leo XIV’s first document, Dilexi te. The meeting, moderated by Prof. Mariangela Galluccio, deputy director of the ITST, opened with a greeting from Bishop Cesare Di Pietro, auxiliary bishop of Messina, who highlighted the ecclesial value of the new papal document and the importance of moments of shared reflection. Subsequently, Sr Maria Tirreni AR, episcopal delegate for Consecrated Life in Messina, drew attention to the particular relevance of the Exhortation for the journey of religious communities. The first presentation was given by Fr Giovanni Russo, SDB, full professor of bioethics, director of ITST and of the Higher School of Specialisation in Bioethics and Sexology, who explored the underlying theme of Dilexi te from a social and ethical perspective. Next, Prof. Rosa Grazia Romano, associate professor of general and social pedagogy at the University of Messina, developed the theme “Poverty and the crisis of humanity in Dilexi te.” The conclusion was given by Brother Antonio Catalfamo, Provincial Minister of the Friars Minor of Sicily, with his presentation “For the least among the least: care as a criterion of authenticity in religious life in the light of Dilexi te.”
