Argentina – The Vicar of the Rector Major concludes consultations for the appointment of the new Provincial
Last Saturday, 21 February 2026, the assembly of Salesians from the north-eastern region of Argentina was held to appoint the next Provincial. The Salesians from the area gathered to participate in this moment of discernment in the Casa Nuestra Señora de Itatí Community in Fontana, in the Argentine Chaco, contributing their reflections to the debate in an atmosphere of communion.
The day was accompanied by the Vicar of the Rector Major, who, in addition to animating this institutional moment, accompanied the Pastoral Day of the area in the Don Bosco Work in Resistencia.
The following day, Fr Martoglio visited the Salesian work in Corrientes, in what was a historic and very significant event for the community.
The Vicar of the Rector Major was welcomed by the Director of the work, Mr Pablo Micheli, and together they visited the Pius XI and Mary Help of Christians houses and finally the Domingo y Laura Educational and Pastoral Centre.
In Corrientes, the Vicar of the Rector Major also participated in the local Pastoral Day, talking with leaders, pastoral agents and educators of the entire work. It was a great opportunity for Fr Martoglio to get to know the members of the community through spontaneous and fraternal conversations.
The day ended with the Eucharistic Celebration during which he gave the inaugural blessing of the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, a work recently completed and made possible thanks to the contribution of the Salesian Don Bosco Mission Offie in Bonn, Germany, as well as the collaboration of the communities of the Domingo y Laura Educational and Pastoral Centre, and the educational levels of the Jardín Saltimbanquis, the Salesian College and the Pius XI Institute in the city.
Finally, on 23 February, with the assembly of the coastal area, the consultation process planned in the Saint Artemides Zatti province in view of the appointment of the next provincial came to an end. The meeting took place at the San José Salesian house in Rosario and brought together Salesians from the houses in the area for this final phase of discernment, participation and shared responsibility. This concluded the consultation process in the five areas into which the province is divided.
‘We are particularly grateful to Fr Stefano Martoglio, Vicar of the Rector Major, for his closeness and accompaniment during these weeks,’ commented the Salesians of ARN. ‘We entrust this journey already completed to the Lord and renew our willingness to continue serving the Salesian mission, especially among the most vulnerable young people.’
