Argentina – Pastoral Day in North-East Argentina with a visit from the Vicar of the Rector Major

The Pastoral Day, celebrated on 20 February, began in the morning with an opening prayer prepared by the Corrientes community, centred on the Rector Major’s Strenna for 2026, entitled: ‘Do whatever he tells you. Believers, free to serve’.

Using the symbol of vases, each community shared what it carries within itself: its composition, its distinctive characteristics and what it offers to the Lord from its specific context. This gesture highlighted the richness of each community and renewed awareness of the common mission.

In the afternoon, the official video of the Strenna 2026 was shown, followed by reflection and discussion. A dynamic already implemented the previous year was also resumed: sharing by area (parishes, Salesian Youth Movement and educational levels). In small groups, each house presented a significant project and, subsequently, in a plenary session, some common initiatives and challenges were shared. This exchange strengthened the shared vision and sense of regional belonging.

The presence of Fr Martoglio

The day was enriched by the presence of Fr Stefano Martoglio, Vicar of the Rector Major, who was in the region for the consultation process for the election of the next Superior of the St Artemides Zatti Province of ArgentinaNorth. In a warm and fraternal atmosphere, he shared some reflections on the current reality of the Congregation and engaged in dialogue with those present in an open question and answer session. His presence was a significant gesture of accompaniment and communion, which encouraged a deeper commitment to the Salesian charism and mission among young people, especially the most vulnerable.

The Pastoral Day concluded with the Eucharistic celebration at the Parish of Mary Help of Christians, celebrated by the Salesian priests of the NEA region and with the participation of the parish community. During the offertory, the Salesian Cooperators presented the PBA Project as part of the 150th anniversary of the Association, along with other offerings from the boys and girls of the Salesian Youth Movement.

The meeting sparked a renewed missionary zeal in the area and multiplied the joy of feeling part of the same shared mission in the NEA region.
