Fr García will take up this service on 1 September. He is currently Superior of the Salesian Province of St James the Greater, Spain (SSM), based in Madrid, a mandate that will end on 2 May.

Statements regarding his appointment

The President of CONFER, Dominican Jesús Díaz, expressed his ‘gratitude to the Salesian Province of SSM and to the Brothers of the Christian Schools for their commitment to religious life in Spain, through the collaboration and service that Fernando García and Jesús Miguel Zamora have given and will give to CONFER’.

Fr José Carlos Sobejano, the new Provincial of the Salesians in SSM, emphasised that ‘our Provincial has participated in recent years in the General Council of CONFER, contributing his vision of Consecrated Life and his experience in various educational, pastoral and management areas’. Fr Sobejano also recalled Article 6 of the Salesian Constitutions, which emphasises that ‘the Salesian vocation places us at the heart of the Church and puts us fully at the service of its mission’.

In a message addressed to the Salesians, the new Provincial of SSM also emphasised that ‘we are happy to participate in this way in the life of the Church’ and invited the Salesian community to accompany Fr García with their prayers ‘in this service to which he has been called’.
