During the sessions participants deepened their understanding of communication as an essential dimension of the Salesian mission, beyond its technical or instrumental nature. In light of the Framework of Reference and the Sector’s guidelines, it was emphasised that communication is called to be an experience of relationship, listening and closeness, capable of engaging with the languages of young people and making the Gospel present in a meaningful way, following Don Bosco’s pedagogical intuition.
Reflection also focused on the role of the Salesian Bulletin as a privileged means of animation, identity and evangelisation, together with the importance of moving towards integrated, formative and missionary communication. Inspired by Don Bosco’s insight regarding the dissemination of ‘good books’ as an educational tool, a renewed commitment was made to building a Salesian communication that fosters culture, promotes participation and joyfully proclaims Christ, especially in the new digital environments where young people are present.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to recognise the current challenges facing the Social Communication Sector within the Congregation, fostering a deeper understanding of its role as a constitutive dimension of Salesian life.
In line with the 29th General Chapter, Salesians were encouraged to promote formation processes that integrate communication into daily life, addressing key themes such as evangelisation, shared responsibility with the laity, the responsible use of digital technologies and the building of a culture of peace.
