Sri Lanka – Rector Major Concludes Animation Visit, Strengthening Hope and Salesian Communion
He was then welcomed at the nearby FMA Convent for a fraternal breakfast, further expressing the unity of the Salesian Family. The morning continued with a vibrant cultural programme prepared by the young people. Through music, dance, and creative performances, the children expressed their gratitude and joy. In his address, the Rector Major reminded them that education in a Don Bosco centre is both a gift and a responsibility. Echoing the charism of St John Bosco, he encouraged them to use their talents not merely for personal success, but for the service of society and the upliftment of the most vulnerable.
The Holy Eucharist, celebrated in the local language by Fr Roshan, Provincial, became the spiritual heart of the day. In his reflection after Communion, Fr Attard invited the faithful to prepare for the approaching Feast of Pentecost by opening their hearts to the Holy Spirit, who renews, strengthens, and guides the Church’s mission among the young.
The visit then proceeded to the Don Bosco Higher Education Centre in Narammala, where the Rector Major received a warm and festive welcome. During a special afternoon programme, past pupils shared moving testimonies, highlighting how Salesian accompaniment had shaped their personal growth, professional achievements, and commitment to society. Deeply appreciative, the Rector Major urged the young people to become “lights to the world” — competent and compassionate citizens rooted in strong human and Christian values. A lively question-and-answer session followed, offering an opportunity for sincere dialogue and encouragement.
In the evening, Fr Attard travelled to the Provincial House, where the Vice Province hosted a concluding dinner attended by the Auxiliary Bishop and leaders of the Salesian communities. The gathering was marked by gratitude and a strong sense of shared mission.
On the morning of 19 May 2026, the Rector Major departed for Italy, leaving behind a strengthened spirit of unity, enthusiasm, and hope, and reaffirming the Salesian commitment to walk with the young people of Sri Lanka in the spirit of Don Bosco.
