Titled Catholic Education in Malta: The Mission of Church Schools in Maltese Society Today and Tomorrow, the document defines Church Schools as Christ-centred communities committed to inclusion, justice, compassion, and the promotion of human dignity. It is intended to guide strategic planning, leadership formation, and the future development of schools, while encouraging active engagement with society through dialogue and respect.

The drafting process was led by a working group chaired by Fr Eric Cachi, Provincial, who also contributed to the writing of the text and oversaw the project from its inception to completion.

Fr Eric addressed attendees at the launch as a keynote speaker, alongside Fr Jake Mamo, Headmaster of Savio College. Archbishop Charles Scicluna, in a message delivered for the occasion, highlighted the broader mission of Catholic education.

“The Catholic school must be a school for the whole person,” Archbishop Scicluna stated, emphasizing the formation of both intellect and character, and calling Church schools to form individuals committed to truth, justice, and service, especially to the most vulnerable.

The new document aims to ensure that Church Schools remain faithful to their educational and evangelizing mission while responding effectively to contemporary social realities in Malta and Gozo.
